Tea or Vodka?

It has been a few days since my last post, that is because the rollercoaster was at full pace.

I’m sure you have all experienced times in your life where everything happens so fast you may feel like you are in a parallel universe; looking at your own life from somewhere else with no ability to control the speed of things. Some things are in slow motion and others are in fast forward, occasionally there is a moment where you can stop, breathe, take stock, evaluate and start again…

Saturday, I went to Westmorland General Hospital for CT with contrast, I was told to drink plenty and be well hydrated before I went, I did as I was told!

I got there and was given a litre of peppermint flavoured gloop to drink within an hour and not to go to the loo the for at least the last 30minutes! I accomplished this, but I have to say I’m not that keen on gloopy drinks!

I then was taken outside to a special CT room given a canula in my arm and connected to a drip that would inject another dye! The main message was ‘not to panic if I felt like I wet myself’ as there would be a warm sensation in that area during the scan. There was a gentle whirr and a mechanical voice telling when to breathe in and out and I was passed through the machine a few times, not scary at all and a great little lay down for half an hour. But low an behold while desperate to pee and normally not that great at holding it in I got the warm sensation, I was still fully clothed and a tad concerned about how damp I was going to be when I got up to leave…

Fortunately, it was just a sensation and I made to the loo just in time!

Once home I made a roast beef dinner, I had put the beef in the slow cooker before we left and I was feeling really proud of myself until Shain decided to tell me we should NOT be having a roast on a Saturday and I was mental as roasts are for Sundays! (he enjoyed it hahahaha)

All in all, a long assed day with great accomplishments.

Sunday, I started with a really bad cough, that did set the bladder into overdrive again.

Monday, I Called the GP first thing in the morning to be seen but unfortunately all appointments had gone, I had to wait until the evening to go to CHOC the on-call doctors; turns out I’m having a huge asthma attack (guess that’s due to the anxiety of living with the unknown but terribly scary condition that is commonly known as cancer). It has been a long time since I struggled with my asthma this badly, I just thought I had a chest infection. Now I’m on steroids for my asthma and I got a great nights sleep.

Tuesday/Today I took a phone call from my Haematologist…

Heart racing, brain jumping from pillar to post I listened to what he had to say…

“Sara, your CT showed a mass on your ovary…” (Shit, bollox, fuck, twat)

“I have referred you to Gynaecology…” (OMG have to tell my loved ones more bad news, Fin my trusty child sat with me listening to every word and appearing to understand and later asking about the gravity of this)

“Have you had your biopsy yet?” (No that’s this Friday)

“I’ll see you in January and hope you see the gynaecologist before you see me again”

How did I feel? Glad I had children and am of an age where I don’t need ovaries, happy to have them taken away, hoping its not cancer and just like the huge lump in my boob (a bit of an inconvenience).

While writing his I asked Shain to make me a nice cup of tea, he was great and did just that, I asked where his was and the reply was “For Fucks Sake, I need vodka not tea”.

Sorry it’s been a while, I’ve felt like shite…

The past few weeks have resembled a marathon, with each mile presenting its own unique challenges in my journey with lymphoma. As I approached the finish line of my next specialist appointment, antici
